I think you are an admirable person and an inspiring individual…I’m sure you have more of an impact on others’ lives than you think you do….don’t stop volunteering to those individuals you work with on your personal time….I’m sure the confidence you help transpire within them from teaching them basic fundamentals of math helps in more ways than you even know, KUDOS!!! Makes me want to look into possible volunteer opportunities in my own personal life. Makes me want to pay it forward so to speak. You’re awesome! I wish you the best 🙂

“I have never been good with numbers and was daunted, to say the least about a college level course. This last semester I had the privilege to be part of John Verschoor’s Quantitative Reasoning class at the University of Cincinnati in Clermont.
I was surprised at how much I was able to learn and apply over the course of the semester. John made sure that anyone that was willing to work was successful. He organized supplemental instruction sessions for those students that wanted it and made sure that everyone had absorbed the content before we moved on to the next part.”

” In the fall of 2015, I had the pleasure of taking the Quantitative Reasoning course instructed by Professor Verschoor at the UC Clermont campus. At that time, it had been over twenty years since I had used most of my math skills and just being able to take the placement test required some review. I was concerned that I would struggle with a college level course after so much time. On the first day of class, the Professor provided us with a self-assessment for review that covered the basic nuts and bolts of algebra that would be vital for success. His understanding of the importance of foundational skills in mathematics enabled me to start at square one without playing catch up. He also gave attention to students individually to prevent them from being left behind. Our class had every opportunity to ask questions about the material and we were given examples with explanations to answer those questions. Professor Verschoor’s ability to explain the “how” as well as the “why” enabled me to not only learn the material but also understand it. During the spring and fall semesters of 2016, I worked in the SI program for the Professor in his Quantitative Reasoning classes. I believe the fact that someone with a 1.9 high school GPA and over two decades removed from using basic algebra could then have enough understanding to help others, is proof that Professor Verschoor has a unique ability to convey knowledge to his students.”

“I am a student at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College, and I was lucky enough to have Professor Verschoor as my instructor. Nowadays, it is hard to find teachers who are enthusiastic about a subject (particularly math), but he definitely showed that he was. He was able to energize the students and make math more interesting and fun. Coming from a student who has always struggled with math, Professor Verschoor did a great job of teaching and helping myself, and other students understand the material. I highly recommend his class, and would absolutely take it again just for the enjoyment of it. I don’t believe I have seen any teacher try as hard to help the students, as much as he did throughout the whole semester, and for that I am thankful. Professor Verschoor is a great educator, and also a great guy with his fun-loving personality. He would be a great asset to any University as an instructor of mathematics.”

“I have had the privilege of learning from Mr. Verschoor in my Quantitative Reasoning course this past semester at the University of Cincinnati. At all times, I have found Mr. Verschoor to be dedicated and more than willing to help any student that is putting in the effort to do well in his course. I’ve found that he has nearly perfected a process that relates the material to the class effectively. Although his course is challenging, he allows you to achieve any grade you want if you’re willing to work for it. He is also very flexible when it comes to helping outside of the classroom and was always willing to share his knowledge. I am happy I took his course and I am happy to provide further information if necessary.”
